A business name is a name used to carry on a business by an individual, company or a partnership, which has a place of business in the Republic of Ireland, under a name other than their own true names. A business name is a name that an individual, partnership or company can use to trade under.
A company may, by special resolution signified in writing, change its name. There are a variety of reasons why a company may wish to change its name, the name may no longer be suitable for the business if it has diversified or has re-branded etc. The change of name is subject to approval by the registrar of companies. The new name may not be used by the company until the certified of change of name has been issued by the CRO. The change of name is effective from the date the certificate is issued.
Being a company officer you must notify the CRO whenever there is a change to the companies director or secretary. A B10 form must be filled in the by the company on order to notify the appointment of an officer post- incorporation, the cessation of an officer’s appointment and to notify the CRO of the change.
It is very important that a company keeps the CRO informed of the location of the location of the registered office. Every company is required by law to file a notice of the situation of its registered office in the state. A company may notify any change in the location of its registered office by filing out a B2 form and sending it to the CRO. The CRO must be notified of a companies change of address within 14 days of the change.
