Central Register of Beneficial Ownership (RBO) a requirement for Irish Companies to be compliant

Under new legislation, companies are obliged to register the beneficial ownership details in the Central Registrar of Beneficial Ownership of Companies and Industrial & Provident Societies (RBO).

The purpose of the (RBO) is to improve corporate trust and transparency in Ireland and the EU by making it clear to law enforcement agencies, regulators, obliged entities, other businesses and the public about who ultimately owns and controls Irish companies and industrial and provident societies (I&PS).

It is the legal responsibility of a company/society’s director(s) and company secretary to obtain and confirm beneficial ownership information, to keep the company/society’s own beneficial ownership register current and accurate.

The company will have until 22nd November 2019 to file the required details of its beneficial owners in the RBO.

If the company fails to complete the required filing by 22nd November 2019, the company may be guilty of an offence under the Regulations which may result in the company being prosecuted.
